Job Description

Salary: $20,400 - 30,000 per year Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience building and maintaining production WordPress sites, including custom themes and plugins.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and PHP, with demonstrated experience working with custom themes.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and AI coding environments such as Claude Code or Codex, plus working knowledge of AI project management.
• Experience with Git-based deployment workflows, including GitHub, staging and production environments, and safe rollbacks.
• Experience with managed WordPress hosting and familiarity with DNS, SSL, redirects, and server migrations.
• Experience implementing memberships and paywalls using Memberful, MemberPress, WooCommerce Subscriptions, or similar tools.
• Ability to diagnose GA4 and Google Tag Manager tracking issues.
• Experience improving performance and Core Web Vitals on content-heavy, ad-supported sites.
• Clear written communication and self-directed project management, including issue tracking and changelogs.
• Good design sensibility and ability to recognize UI issues.
• Preferred: Experience shipping AI-powered tools or automations, HubSpot integrations, Google Publisher Tags or ad operations, email platform integrations and deliverability, and consumer-facing UI/UX improvements; an interest in fly fishing or the outdoor industry is also welcome.
• Able to provide dependable weekly availability and respond the same day to urgent outages or payment and ad-delivery issues.
• U.S. or Canada location is preferred, with availability overlapping U.S. business hours.

• Maintain and develop our WordPress websites, including content updates, landing pages, custom themes and plugins, redirects, hosting, DNS, and analytics integrity.
• Integrate AI tools into our website and content workflows.
• Provide technical support for MidCurrent Travels HubSpot setup, including forms, lead capture and routing, tracking, and sales landing pages.
• Build and improve MidCurrent Plus membership experiences, including gated content, paywalls, onboarding, account management, and integrations connecting membership status to email platforms.
• Maintain ad delivery through Google Publisher Tags and support the reliability of ad revenue systems.
• Administer our business technology, including Google Workspace, email setup and deliverability, payment systems, and other operational platforms.
• Manage digital account access, credentials, security, and vendor accounts, and respond when systems break.
• Participate in a brief weekly check-in and occasional technical planning discussions.

We are MidCurrent, an independent fly-fishing media brand publishing daily editorial content for serious anglers. Our businesses also include MidCurrent Travel and MidCurrent Plus, a subscription membership with personalized newsletters, regional guides, and gated content. You will be our go-to technology partner on a small team, with the opportunity for your responsibilities to grow as our business expands. This is a remote, part-time independent contractor engagement of approximately 5–8 hours per week, with a monthly retainer of $1,700–$2,500 USD based on experience. Work is scheduled at your discretion, with a weekly check-in; approved work beyond the retainer is billed hourly. We are open to an initial three-month engagement that may continue long-term. You will use your own equipment and software. Shortlisted candidates complete a paid, scoped trial task.
